Relationship-Based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Mental health counseling supported in science while valuing the importance of the therapeutic relationship

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is defined as the integration of clinical expertise, best current scientific evidence, and client values to provide high quality mental health counseling.  I find that integrating EBP like CBT and key therapeutic relationship factors such as validation, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness produce the best outcomes.  When appropriate, I also utilize such approaches as Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness and  acceptance skills.  My goal is to not only reduce the distress from your presenting problems but also improve your overall well-being and experience personal growth. The outcomes of good counseling are maintained over time and generalize to many facets of life.

In addition to helping clients achieve their mental health wellness goals, I also specialize in working with medical, mental health and academic professionals (school teachers).

Specialize in Medical & Mental Health Professionals

I understand the stress and burnout that comes with the "helping" professions, from an overworked resident physician to an emotionally drained psychologist.  This often includes underlying depression, anxiety, or trauma.  I can meet you where you are at and help you return to optimizing your own mental health and professional performance.

Specialize in Motivational Interviewing

I understand that change is not a yes or no decision we make. Rather, its a process that we go through and often times we give up before we're ready to succeed. I have significant training and experience in helping people understand this process and be able to identify exactly where they are in the process at any given time on any given issue.

Specialize in Academic Professionals (Teachers)

I have experience in working with school teachers and the demands on these professionals that are made of them from the community, school districts, parents and themselves.  The Covid Pandemic has had a significant impact on teachers due to monumental upheaval of classroom structure, routines and optimal teaching/learning environments; due to the disruption in classroom settings, such as going from the classroom to remote learning and then back to the classroom.
I can meet you where you are at and help you return to optimizing your own mental well being and professional performance.

Specialize in ACOA (Adult Children Of Alcoholism/Addiction)

When a child grows up in a home where dependency on alcohol or other substances are present; they often blame themselves believing they're responsible for the dysfunction in their family. As these children mature, the impact of being raised in this environment can linger for years. As a result, emotions of fear, anxiety and anger can progress with them into adulthood, often creating ineffective coping skills that no longer work to manage important areas in their adult lives. I can meet you where you are at and help you identify your role in the family impacted by chemical dependency. I can also help you identify and embrace your strengths that will be used to help you grow in the important areas in your adult life.
